Introduction

Services: Design, Fabrication, CNC Machining, Custom Electronics, Textured Spray Finish Location: UK, Multiple Locations Amazon commissioned Studio Sowow to produce an exact full-size replica of one of their delivery lockers for a high-profile brand campaign. The brief required more than a visual reproduction. The locker needed to be physically accurate to the real unit, finished to a standard that would hold up to close inspection and professional photography, and capable of performing a function on demand. It was the kind of commission that sits precisely between model making and experiential build, where the prop has to behave as well as it looks.

Background

Amazon’s brand campaigns are executed at a standard that leaves no room for prop work that looks like prop work. The locker replica needed to be indistinguishable from the real thing on camera and in person. Every panel, every door, every finish detail had to match the production unit. The addition of voice-activated functionality meant that the replica also needed to respond to user interaction reliably in a live environment, across multiple uses and locations. That combination of visual accuracy and mechanical performance is exactly the kind of challenge we are built for.

Solution / Conclusion

We designed and fabricated a full-size replica Amazon delivery locker, complete with a voice-activated door mechanism powered by custom electronics designed and built in-house. The structural frame was engineered to replicate the proportions and appearance of the production unit accurately. Panels were fabricated and finished with a textured spray finish to match the surface quality of the real locker. Every external detail was reproduced to specification. The voice activation system was the element that elevated this from a static replica to a working campaign prop. Our electronics team developed the system in-house so that the door responded to spoken commands as intended, with consistent and reliable performance across the campaign’s full run. All mechanical, electronic and finishing work was managed within Studio Sowow as a single build, with no external suppliers involved. Images courtesy of Studio Sowow and Amazon UK Services Limited.
